The Buddha preaching Gandhara, from Hoti Mardan, Mardan District, NWFP, Pakistan 2nd-3rd century AD Following his Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, the Buddha went to the Deer Park at Sarnath where he preached his First Sermon. There, he 'set in motion the Wheel of the Law' symbolised here by his hands in dharmachahramudra. At the base of the throne is an image of a bodhisattva flanked by worshippers.
